Words That Work - for Aotearoa New Zealand church communicators

Reframing how we talk about each other…

What is it?: Communications training workshop on effective advocacy for people seeking asylum.

When is it?: Wednesday, 4 March 2020, 10am – 5.00pm.

Where is it?: Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland.

The ‘Words That Work’ workshop main facilitator is Michelle McDonald, Anglican Church Southern Queensland News Editor and Communications and Community Engagement Specialist, and former advocacy ‘Words That Work’ trainer for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre in Australia.

The Rev’d Dr Katalina Tahaafe-Williams, former World Council of Churches Director of Ministry from the Margins (whose portfolio included the rights of migrants and refugees, indigenous peoples, and other socially marginalised groups) will be attending as an expert participant and will bring her insights into how this communications model could be adapted across different church social advocacy contexts.

Join in on this hands-on workshop to:

  • hear about the ASRC’s groundbreaking ‘Words That Work’

  • learn how to have persuasive conversations

  • structure your written communications more effectively

  • discover where best to focus your energy

  • meet and collaborate with like-minded people
