Joint day of worship - International Day of Social Justice and 50th anniversary of NZCCSS

In 2019 the New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services will celebrate 50 years of working for justice and compassion on behalf of its member churches.

Cardinal John Dew encouraged NZCCSS to find a way to acknowledge the strength they have in working together, their unity and common passion for justice. His suggestion was to do this in prayer and worship. This has come to life in two events.

A day of prayer and unity on Wednesday 20 February 2019, the United Nations International Day of Social Justice. Across Aotearoa New Zealand our member churches and social service agencies are being invited to take some time on this day to pray for justice and to celebrate what we have and continue to achieve together as Christian churches through NZCCSS.

  • During the afternoon each of our member churches will spend time in prayer as part of a prayer vigil from 12.30pm until 5.15pm, at the Anglican Cathedral of St Paul, Wellington

  • A service of celebration of NZCCSS - Wednesday 20 February at 5.15pm at the Anglican Cathedral of St Paul, Wellington.
