In response to the Christchurch shootings, here are the latest resources to pray, support, mourn, and learn.
Archbishops Philip Richardson and Don Tamihere, joint leaders of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand issued a joint statement:
"We are shocked at the appalling and horrific acts of violence that occurred in Christchurch today.
We feel utterly saddened for those who have lost their lives, and for their families and loved ones who mourn them. Indeed we mourn with them as fellow citizens and members of the same human whānau, and we condemn the despicable and cowardly acts of violence that took their lives.
The freedom of worship and religious life is an absolute right to all in this land. We choose to stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters and support their continued and inalienable right to live and worship here in peace.
All of us who live here in Aotearoa New Zealand must stand in solidarity in the face of such evil – and we call upon Anglicans throughout Aotearoa New Zealand to uphold all those affected in prayer, and to respond to this act by rejecting the rhetoric of hatred and religious intolerance, and to show compassion and kindness to all our neighbours who wish to live here in peace.”
Archbishop Fereimi Cama has also released a statement, on behalf of the Diocese of Polynesia.

Bishop Peter Carrell, Bishop of Christchurch writes:
“My continuing request is that we are first praying for the families of those who grieve the deaths of their loved ones, for the injured who are in hospital being treated, for their families, and for all Muslim communities in Christchurch and beyond who are shaken beyond words by yesterday’s shootings. Secondly, let’s pray for those working hard and often out of sight to make things better: including the police, the coroners, medical staff, victim support, Government and Council leaders and staff, and our chaplains. Then let’s pray for ourselves and our fellow Kiwis as we struggle to come to terms with the brutality of this tragedy and our loss of innocence as a nation.”
Liturgical Resources
Our thanks to all those who are sharing their gifts to offer these, at such a time of need.
God of infinite mercy, we pray for the victims of the Christchurch attacks.
Remember them according to the favour you bear for your people.
Comfort those who mourn and give strength to the injured.
Deliver those whose hearts are hardened by hatred.
Grant to us all your understanding, and your persevering love, for your mercy’s sake. Amen.
A Prayer on the Christchurch Shooting by Helen Bichen, Tawa Union Parish - for you to use and share.
In silence we hold before you those who are affected by this tragedy: families who are grieving for members who were killed . . . those waiting for news from the hospital . . . people who came to this country seeking safety from persecution whose fears are rekindled . . . communities in Christchurch recovering from earthquake trauma, again, under stress . . .

Solidarity with Muslim communities
During these days of tragedy mourning and and solidarity we suggest that congregations find your local mosque (see website ) - and either walk or drive to the mosque and gather outside for prayer and reflections. You could leave a card or gift - as you wish. You could go there after the service, instead of your service, or during the week.
May they Rest in Peace, and Rise in Glory.
